H.M.S. Sirius was a frigate of the British Royal Navy who took part in the battle of Trafalgar alongside H.M.S. Victory of Lord Nelson.
The design of this 36-gun fifth-rate frigate was based upon the San Fiorenzo who was taken from the Spanish in 1794.
Between 1798 and 1810, H.M.S. Sirius took part in the French Revolutionary wars and the Napoleonic wars when she captured many French, Dutch and Spanish vessels. She fought alongside H.M.S. Victory of Lord Nelson during the battle of Trafalgar.
From 1806 to 1808, H.M.S. Sirius saw action in the Mediterranean against the French before moving on to the Indian Ocean. In 1810, during a campaign against French Indian Ocean possessions, H.M.S. Sirius ran aground during an attack against Mauritius. Her captain, being unable to free her, ordered complete evacuation of the ship onto Iphigenia before setting fire to her.
Today, her broken wreck still lies in the water and is of archaeological interest.
