Horatio Nelson’s favourite ship
H.M.S. Agamemnon, nicknamed “Eggs-and-Bacon” by her crew, was a 64-gun third-rate ship of the Ardent class for the British Royal Navy.
She took part in many battles among which Saintes (1782), Genoa (1795), Copenhagen (1801), Cap Finisterre (1805), Trafalgar (1805) and San Domingo (1806).

She took part in many battles among which Saintes (1782), Genoa (1795), Copenhagen (1801), Cap Finisterre (1805), Trafalgar (1805) and San Domingo (1806).
She is remembered for having been Horatio Nelson’s favourite ship.
Her poor condition led to her being wrecked in 1809 when she grounded on unchartered shoal on the mouth of the River Plate (estuary between Argentina and Uruguay).
In 1993, the wreck of H.M.S. Agamemnon was located and several artefacts have been recovered including one of her guns.
