Built in Bordeaux 1799, the Confiance sailed that same year towards Mauritius and its command was given to Robert Surcouf young privateer from Saint-Malo who previously operated in the Indian ocean.
In 1800, the Confiance captured the East Indiaman Kent, bigger British vessel which was more heavily armed and had twice the number of men on board, after a fierce hand-to-hand fight.
In 1801, Surcouf leaves Mauritius and brings the Confiance back to La Rochelle with a cargo valued at two million francs.
In 1803, the Confiance was captured along the African coast and sold to a British merchant.
