Santa Ana was launched in 1784 at Ferrol. A 112-gun and tree-decker ship, she was the prototype and lead ship of the Santa Ana Class which formed the backbone of the Spanish Navy.
During the famous battle of Trafalgar in 1805, the Santa Ana challenged the Royal Sovereign. After several hours of merciless battle, having lost her rigging, 100 men dead, surrounded by the enemy, she finally surrendered. However, after the battle, during a violent storm, her crew managed to recapture the ship and helped by the French frigate Themis, the Santa Ana returned to Cadix.
